The role:

  • WaveOptics is a fast moving start up and due to further R&D activities and customer interest we are growing our research team
  • As a Waveguide Modelling Engineer you will be part of our R&D team delivering innovative products to the AR market
  • Based in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, this opportunity will be working on the next generation of optical displays, you will apply in-house optical modelling techniques for development of new product designs
  • You will have great problem-solving skills and research and develop new optical modelling approaches
  • Correlate modelled with measured results to improve the fidelity and predictive power of models
  • Incorporate data from physical measurements of nanostructures into models (from SEM, AFM etc)

What we need to see: 

  • Masters/PhD in mathematics, physics or engineering
  • Expertise in physical/wave optical or diffractive optics modelling and verification techniques (FDTD, RCWA/FMM etc) or solid knowledge of electromagnetic modelling
  • Strong algorithm development, numerical optimisation and scripting skills (Python or MATLAB)
  • Experience of optical metrology techniques to verify performance of diffractive structures
  • Understanding of colorimetry, photometry and visual optics
  • Understanding of polarisation measurement and modelling, including Jones calculus and related techniques
  • Happy to adapt to short timescales and deliverables
  • Can demonstrate good organisation and planning suitable for R&D projects

Bonus:

  • Experience of designing diffractive structures using algorithmic approaches such as IFTA
  • Understanding of optical raytracing algorithms
  • Experience with optical system design tools such as Zemax, CodeV, FRED, ASAP
  • Experience of using wave optical modelling tools such as Lumerical
