As a Graduate R&D Engineer, you will support research and development activities for next generation AR displays while developing your skills and experience within a fast-paced start up environment. The role focuses on different aspects of R&D in the field of optical engineering.

The role

  • Based in our offices in Oxfordshire you will be part of a waveguide team
  • You will help design and build new experimental systems aimed to provide a deeper understanding of our waveguides
  • You will work on extracting key features of WG and their characteristics to confirm predictive power of our models and improve them by feeding back the experimental data
  • In depth analysis of optical measurement systems and obtained data
  • You will be a part of various R&D activities giving you an opportunity to grow your skillset in many areas of optics and physics
  • You will coordinate activities with internal technical and commercial teams to ensure delivery of deadlines are met

What we like to see

  • BSc or Masters in Optical Engineering, Photonics, Physics or similar
  • Understanding of diffractive and imaging optics
  • Interest in research projects and keen to learn
  • Practical and theoretical skills in optics
  • Hands-on experience with lab work, optical setup building and aligning
  • Competence in a programming language (Python/Matlab/C/LabView/…)
  • Experience with optical lab equipment and light sources
  • Familiarity with various optical metrology techniques i.e. interferometry
  • You will be working in a fast-paced environment so it is essential that you can prioritise your workload


  • Completed optics or engineering internship during studies
  • A relevant University research project in the field of optics which included experimental work
